The five biggest St. Patrick’s Day parties in Toronto

St. Patrick’s Day celebrations started last weekend, but there’s still plenty of Irish-themed fun to be had this week – including St. Patrick’s Day itself on March 17.

All of the parties listed below boast live (mostly Irish) entertainment and plenty of beer and whiskey. We’ve rounded up five of the biggest St. Patrick’s Day bashes happening across the city – three on Thursday and two on Saturday, which gives you a day of rest in between. [See all St. Paddy's listings here.]

So don your greenest apparel and may the luck of the Irish be with you.

The Biggest and Last St Paddy’s Day Party Ever at the Brunswick House

After 140 years in business, the Brunswick House – or Brunny, as it’s more affectionately known – will close its doors at the end of the month. But the Annex watering hole popular with college kids and 905ers isn’t going down without one last rager. On March 17, the Brunny plans to throw a St. Patrick’s Day party of epic proportions starting at 5 p.m. Expect live entertainment, prizes and $5 Buds all night.

St. Patrick’s Day at the 519

The 519, a meeting space for Toronto’s LGBTQ community, is launching a new party series called Firefly, and to kick things off, they’re hosting a St. Patrick’s Day event on March 17 from 4 to 11 pm. The ballroom will be transformed into a “decidedly queer Irish pub,” complete with live entertainment from The Ugly Horse band, fiddler Sammy V and DJ Ticky Ty. A whiskey tasting bar and plenty of beer and pub grub will help keep the festivities rolling. Tickets are $20 in advance and proceeds benefit the 519 programs.

St. Paddy’s Day Extravaganza at Gladstone Hotel

The Queen West hotel is hosting a free St. Patrick’s Day party that starts at 12 p.m. on March 17 and goes until midnight. Mill Street Brewery will be on hand for free samples of their seasonal beers and the Gladstone’s Melody Bar will be stocked with a large selection of ales, lagers and stouts. Live entertainment from Nathan Da Silva and DJ Devon Little among others starts at 5 pm.

Guinness SPD Toronto Festival at Polson Pier

Taking place in five different cities, the SPD Canada parties promise to be some of the largest St. Patrick’s Day celebrations around. In Toronto, the Guinness-sponsored bash will happen at Polson Pier in the Port Lands area and run from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. (with three entry times) on March 19. Expect a free pancake breakfast, live bands such as Poverty’s Arse and In Living Cover, Irish dancers, large-scale carnival games and more than 15 bars. Tickets start at $14.95.

St. Paddy’s Day at the Amsterdam BrewHouse

A 15-hour St. Patrick’s Day party awaits at the Amsterdam BrewHouse on March 19 from 11 am. Enjoy a free pancake breakfast to start followed by hours of entertainment, including live bands, fiddle music, video DJ battles and more. Partygoers can get their drink on at a Jameson whiskey bar and Amsterdam BrewHouse will be pouring an exclusive oatmeal stout. Tickets start at $24.39.
